Jennifer Hudson sings to her old self in a new Weight Watchers commercial that contrasts svelte J.Hud with the plus-sized version of the star. In a commercial for the weight loss program reminiscent of the passĂ© trend of living celebrities doing duets with dead stars, an upgraded Hudson does a beautiful rendition of “I Believe in You and Me” with an American-Idol era image of herself.

In the Weight Watchers ad, which first aired during the season finale of X Factor, Jennifer takes the stage in a body-hugging mauve dress and a sophisticated hairstyle — both of which illustrate how far she has come in both taste and fitness compared to the J.Hud of old. The ill-fitting hot pink number and mass of crimped curls do nothing for the far less chic visage the new Hudson joins onstage.

Yet, even though the previously plump version has nothing on the new Jennifer, both figures sing sweetly together, beaming in united happiness over the transformation that has yielded the fabulously hot Hudson.

The latest commercial featuring Jennifer Hudson as the spokesperson for Weight Watchers was unveiled shortly after the diva made headlines for wearing an ultra-short minidress on the red carpet for the VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul concert filmed on December 18. This appearance left people questioning whether the star has lost too much weight.

Hudson also recently revealed that she turned down the lead role in Precious, because she did not want to be defined by her weight in film roles following Dreamgirls. Her role of Effie in the award-winning adaptation was strongly identified with the character’s larger size.

Quotes by Hudson regarding her refusal of the Precious lead suggest that she did not want to put on more weight to play the troubled teen, although the part earned Gabourey Sidibe an Academy Award nomination.

Hudson may not want to be defined by her size, but her latest Weight Watchers ad certainly has us continuing to obsess over her figure. Commentary on Jennifer Hudson’s weight loss has been continual since she signed on as a Weight Watchers spokesperson a little over a year ago.
