The members of The New Creation Baptist Church, which serves both African Americans and Hispanic congregation, have come together over a series of crimes that resulted in an attack on Pastor Jose Rivas
After a busy weekend, Rivas and his wife went to clean the church when they interrupted a man who had broken in.
Pastor Rivas told the man that the service hours were over. He then threatened them and jumped through the window he’s broken to flea.
His wife, Rosa Rivas called 911. ” I was scared for him,” she said.
This is the third burglary since November. For 10 months, the children of the Church collected pennies and brought them to Sunday services.
They collected more than 30,000 pennies with the goal of donating $1000 to an organization that helps poor children.
The Wheaton area church was broken into, and about 40,000 pennies were stolen, Montgomery police said.
