Hell breaks loose in line for Georgia public housing

People started lining up outside the East Point public housing authority Monday to get an application to be put on a waiting list for subsidized housing. The applications were not scheduled to be distributed until today and by this morning thousands were in line to get one.
East Point police officers had to restore order after fights broke out last night and again this morning when people stormed the office door. However, the chance of anyone getting housing anytime soon is slim. East Point’s nearly 200 public housing units are filled and 400 vouchers for section-eight housing are also being used.
The last time the East Point housing authority opened its waiting list was in 2002 and more than two-thousand people signed up.
