WASHINGTON (AP) – The general public has one more day to visit the new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington before Sunday’s dedication.

The memorial will be open Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. It will be closed Friday and Saturday to prepare the site for the dedication, which is expected to draw up to 250,000 people.

But bad weather is threatening to disrupt the long-planned event. Sunday marks the 48th anniversary of the March on Washington and King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. It’s also the day Hurricane Irene is expected to bear down on the Washington region.

National Park Service officials say they’re monitoring forecasts and it’s too early to tell whether the dedication will need to be rescheduled.
