Senate candidate sends ‘tone deaf’ fundraising email after NYC truck attack
A candidate for the New York Senate is under fire after sending out a donation email only hours after the terror attack in which a man drove a truck into pedestrians and bicyclists in Manhattan.
Robert Jackson, who isn’t even on the ballot until next year, sent out an email that read in part, “I know it’s getting late and this is a busy and tragic night . . . .We are still working hard to hit our important end-of-month goal,” along with a link to contribute.
“I am very appreciative of all you do for us, and our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and families of this afternoon’s lower Manhattan attack,” Jackson said, ending the email with a message to “stay safe tonight.”

Of course, New Yorkers were not happy about the tone deaf move, and they were quick to let Jackson know just what they thought.
“Linking tragedy with fund raising is uncharacteristically insensitive of Robert Jackson but apparently that’s what politics does to people,” said Michael Palladino, president of the New York City Detectives’ Endowment Association.
“This shows how depraved a politician’s mind can be when he’ll use a tragedy as part of a fundraising pitch,” said former US Sen. Al D’Amato.
