If you were alive – and owned a radio – in the 50s and 60s, then you know about Chuck Berry. If you weren’t alive then, you still know about Chuck Berry, who has been around for a long time. The songs that Chuck helped memorialize — “Maybellene,” “Roll over Beethoven,” “Johnny be Good” — are legendary sounds that are the original rock and roll. Berry’s thumping back beats and the driving rhythms aren’t hard to find in current pop hits.
