CLEVELAND (AP) – The husband of an Ohio marriage counselor has been indicted on aggravated murder charges in her slaying and faces the death penalty.
The Cuyahoga County prosecutor’s office says 38-year-old Maurice Lyons of Cleveland also was indicted Monday on various other charges, including domestic violence, kidnapping and endangering children.
Authorities say Lyons stabbed Tonya Hunter 17 times on July 25 in front of her 4-year-old son. He’s accused of then leaving the boy near an intersection in Cleveland.
They say Lyons had assaulted the 42-year-old Hunter, prevented her from calling police and threatened her in the days before her death.
Lyons is being held on $8 million bail and faces arraignment Thursday. An attorney who has represented him has said he has psychiatric issues.
