In a split second – Martreece Tyson went from being a roadside hero — to barely saving his own life.
“I heard the tires screech and once I turned around both the cars were coming in my direction,” Martreece Tyson said.
While driving home early Saturday morning — he noticed a car behind him swerve off the road.
When he parked and ran over to help the car was hit by another one — sending both flying straight toward Tyson.
“I thought, I’m about to get crushed by 2 cars,” Tyson said.” I had a split second decision, either keep running and hope that it doesn’t catch up, or jump.”
His decision – sent him on a 37 foot free fall — with a broken arm and leg and looking at months of recovery.
As for the driver in need, Rozina Virani was arrested for a DUI.
If he had it to do again – he wouldn’t think twice.
“It’s instinctive to pull over and help someone that’s in need. I definitely would do it again. I don’t know about jumping over that bridge though, I might have trusted my speed a little bit more,” Tyson said.
Geraldine Tyson Williams said she is proud of her son.
“I know he has a good spirit and as a mother it’s just good to know that your child would help someone,” Williams said.
