The final man to stand trial in the infamous Fenger High School fatal beating case was found guilty of first-degree murder Wednesday.

Lapoleon Colbert was convicted by a jury of 11 women and one man on charges of felony murder. Deliberations lasted a little more than hours before being read in court. Colbert broke down crying after the verdict was read. Colbert faces 20 to 60 years in prison

Colbert is one of five men convicted of the fatal beating of Fenger High School sophomore Derrion Albert in September 2009. The beating was originally thought to be the result of gang violence, but an investigation later found that it was because of a disagreement between students living in Altgeld Gardens and an area called the “Ville”.
