African-Americans are twice as likely to develop diabetes than whites. In fact, one in five black women over age 55 has the condition.

It is well known that diabetics are more likely to suffer complications such as blindness, heart disease, foot amputations, and kidney failure requiring dialysis.

Now, a new study suggests a link between this common illness and Alzheimer’s disease.
