Ernest Addo, 48, of Austell, Georgia was arrested on Friday for stealing the identity of his friend and posing as a doctor for six months. Addo is alleged to have treated up to 500 patients while he worked at the Agape Senior Primary Care in the Orangeburg, S.C.

In a statement by Agape, Addo was hired in February on the basis of his credentials, which checked out, and good recommendations from his previous employer.

He was charged with unlawfully practicing medicine, and could face other charges including unlawfully prescribing medicine, and illegally getting wages from the employer.

According to WTMA, authorities learned of Addo’s crime when a doctor in Orangeburg reported that his friend had stolen his identity and was practicing medicine in his name.
