theGrio: Mother, son run against each other in Illinois mayoral race
Mother Wendy Casey and her son Randall Casey were both running for Village President of the small south suburban community.
Both were defeated by current Village Trustee Dorothy Armstrong, according to results posted to the Cook County Board of Elections website. She received more than 45 percent of the vote.
Both Wendy Casey and Randall Casey each earned less than 10 percent of the 515 votes cast.
The town of roughly 3,500 residents is one that seems to be at odds with itself. Incumbent mayor Keevan Grimmett was thrown off the ballot earlier this year and later reinstated. He came in second in Tuesday’s race.
Michael Smith, a former trustee, failed to get his old job back on the village council. He was thrown out after being accused of stealing gasoline.
