Colorado Springs-area residents collected their mail this weekend unprepared for the shocking invitation that would await them. Pleas to join the Ku Klux Klan were taped to mailboxes across the neighborhood in El Paso County, intended to target racial minorities in the area.
According to the Huffington Post, the KKK recruitment flyers included a number that when dialed, played a message that promoted white supremacist ideology.
The El Paso Count Sherriff’s Office has teamed up the U.S. Postal Inspectors to investigate the mail distribution which is being considered a violation of federal law.
Lt. Jeff Kramer, of the County Sheriff’s department, stated that his department will assist the federal investigation.
Membership for the KKK and a number of other patriot groups have reported increases according to reports by the Southern Law Poverty Center.
