Detroit Michigan high school football star Jayru Campbell was told by a judge that he will have to go to jail for a vicious body slam on a school security guard in January.
Even with a plea deal in place, and a lesser charge of aggravated assault, the 17-year-old will have to serve 57 days for the attack.
Campbell has offered a written apology for the incident. That apology was a requirement of a plea deal that lowered Campbell’s felony assault charge to a misdemeanor.
Although the plea was to a lesser charge, that didn’t stop the judge from sentencing the high school student to time behind bars for his actions. And the terms of Campbell’s sentence didn’t stop there. He will be placed on probation for a period of 15 months.
In rendering his sentencing, the judge made it clear he wants to see the 17-year-old succeed. Campbell will attend summer school to make up for the time he  missed in the classroom, but when his senior year starts at Cass Tech High School  in the fall, he will still be behind bars.
At 17 years old, Campbell is considered an adult in the state of Michigan, which means he will serve his time as an adult. But If Campbell completes all of the obligations of his sentencing, this case will be expunged as though it never happened.
