The 16-year-old who was arrested and charged with the murder of eight-year-old Martin Cobb and assault of his 11-year-old sister has been indicted by a Richmond grand jury on second-degree murder, malicious wounding and strangulation charges.
Court documents released earlier this week name Mairese Washington as the suspect, reports NBC 12.
Young Martin Cobb was killed in May while apparently trying to protect his sister. The two were playing on train tracks behind their Richmond home when Washington allegedly attacked them.
The young boy has been hailed as a hero by his family and community.
The new court documents also reveal Washington’s troubled past. In 2010, Washington was ordered into a mental health facility after bludgeoning a three-year-old with a hammer.
Washington will be tried as an adult and is next due in court on July 31.
