theGRIO REPORT - A Bay Area rapper, The Jacka, was shot dead Monday night in East Oakland.
A Bay Area rapper was shot dead Monday night in Oakland.
KPIX reports Dominic Newton, known by his stage name The Jacka, was killed. Police have not yet identified any suspects.
The 37-year-old rapper was originally from Pittsburgh and launched his rap career with group Mob Figaz in the late 90’s before going solo in 2001.
Newton’s murder marked the 11th death so far in Oakland this year, according to the Associated Press.
Fellow hip-hop artists, including Nipsey Hussle, and fans took to social media to express their sympathies.
