A transgender woman was found dead in the driver’s seat of a car last month near Texas College, and police have charged a school football player with first-degree murder.
Police say Carlton Champion Jr. shot Tyrone ‘Ty’ Underwood multiple times near the school’s campus. The injuries allegedly led to Underwood losing control of a vehicle that eventually crashed into a pole.
Champion, 21, is a player on the Texas College football team.
Investigators found evidence that the two were planning to meet around the time of the murder.
Champion’s father claims that the football player thought Underwood was female and was planning to meet her for a “sexual favor.” Their text communication, however, suggests the two had a relationship for weeks.

Underwood’s roommate also noted that she had been dating a man called “Carlton” for several weeks.
Blood was found on Champion’s jacket according to an arrest affidavit.
Police are not sure where Underwood was shot but believe shots were fired both inside and outside of the car and that Champion was in the car at some point.
Champion is being held on $1 million bond.
