Two Georgia corrections officers resigned Monday after a viral photo showing a beaten inmate with what appears to be leash around his neck was posted to Facebook using a contraband cell phone, according to officials.
Authorities at the Al Burruss Correctional Training Center say the two prisoners involved in the incident were transferred and that the victim, Cortez Berry, has been taken into protective custody in another prison, reports NBC News.
“In our continued efforts for the safety of our inmates, the Department transferred the other two inmates involved to other facilities. Additionally, both supervising officers involved in the incident have resigned,” the Department of Corrections said in a statement.

Berry, who had been imprisoned for parole violations and on charges of juvenile aggravated assault, robbery and car theft, was approaching his eighteenth birthday when he refused an offer to join the gang Gangster Disciples. He was beaten and his humiliation made public shortly afterward.
“No guard was there to help him,” his aunt, Shavonda Wright, told NBC News.
The incident is still being investigated.
