Several students arrived to Virginia Union University this week ready to get situated and start classes.
But then some of them discovered there weren’t any dorms available for them to move into.
“We’ve been here over eight hours and still no one has given us answers as to why or what they’re going to do about it,” one parent told WTVR’s Candace Burns. “When I spoke to the president directly, his reply to me was ‘you can take your student and your money and leave if you’re not happy with the way things are going.”
The university told parents that student housing had been overbooked. VUU is now going through its records to see which people living in the housing are registered for the school and which are not.
According to VUU student Kellie Johnson, many of the students have been told to report to a nearby hotel and to expect to stay there for at least two days while this whole thing is sorted out.
“It’s really inconvenient,” Johnson said. “Almost everyone is frustrated by this because they want to move it.”
