A Seattle-area senior football player was critically injured during a game on Friday night. For three days, Kenney Bui fought for his life following the injury, but sadly, he died of his injuries on Monday.
According to KOMO, Evergreen High School and the local community have come together to mourn 17-year-old Bui, with messages of love and support flooding family and friends in person and on social media.
“It’s an extremely, extremely sad day at highline we all feel the loss and our hearts are just broken for his family for his friends,” spokesperson with the Highline School District Catherine Carbone Rogers told KOMO.
“As you can imagine, it’s been a tremendous loss for this community and for the students and they’re broken,” said Natasha Hicks McCray, the school’s girl’s basketball coach. She also noted that the school had brought in substitute teachers so that the teachers could also deal with their grief.
“One of the beautiful things that we witnessed today was after they found out, the way that the students rallied around one another, and particularly the football team,” she said.
A memorial is planned for Friday and Saturday.
