The series, like the film, follows a group of African-American students at a predominately white Ivy League university as they deal with issues of race, politics and identity.
The original cast, which included Tessa Thompson, Tyler James Williams and Teyonah Parris, brought to life to relatable struggles of trying to find your place in a mostly white space, while finding your way in the black community as well.  No word yet on which stars are joining the series.

Simien originally launched a crowdfunding campaign to get the “Dear White People” movie off the ground, using his tax return to create a trailer. The movie won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. It has grossed $4.4 million dollars at the Box Office.
Simien expressed joy and a bit of humor after news of the deal went public.
