A day care employee in Washington, D.C., has been charged after allegedly ripping out a chunk of a toddler’s hair.
The parents of 1-year-old Demarco were shocked when he came home from the Kids Are Us Learning Center with a huge bald spot on his head on Tuesday. Although a teacher told them that another student at the day care had pulled out their son’s hair, they demanded to see surveillance video of what had happened.
“It was disturbing, like, all I could do was get upset and just cry,” said Demarco’s mother, Daizha Rosser.
But Rosser, along with Demacro’s father, Lawrence McEachin, say that when they looked at the surveillance video, they saw that the teacher, not a student, had been the one pulling Demarco’s hair.
“Pull, pull, pull. He fell; [she] pulled again and snatched it right off,” McEachin said. “I can only imagine he was crying.”
“Her excuse was she was irritated. Your job is to watch kids. Kids will irritate you. He irritates me, but you’re not going to see me — I’m not going to do nothing of that nature,” McEachin said.
Police responded to the daycare on Wednesday when the parents got in an argument over the incident, and 50-year-old Lisa Vaughn has since been charged with first-degree cruelty to a child.
“I’m pressing charges. That’s for one. And she should be locked up because it’s crazy. They’re kids. Your supposed to watch them and monitor them and care for them like they’re your own, not hurt them, and that’s basically what they did. They hurt my son,” Rosser said.
