A billboard in Mississippi is generating severe backlash for using an image from the civil rights era along with the slogan “Make America Great Again.”

The image is from “Bloody Sunday,” when, in 1965, protesters faced off against police in Selma, Alabama. The sign itself was paid for by For Freedoms, which claims to be trying to spark a political conversation by using the image.

The billboard company Lamar Advertising saw no problem with putting the billboard up because it was protected until free speech because it is “not vulgar.” However, Governor Phil Bryant and others have called it reprehensible.

“It’s disappointing that this group would use this image as an attempt to divide the country,” Bryant told Mississippi News Now.
