On Monday, the Boy Scouts of America announced that it would allow transgender children who identify as boys to join the Boy Scouts.

While the previous policy for the organization has been to accept children based on the gender on their birth certificate, the Boy Scouts is now changing that to reflect the gender that is listed by a parent or guardian.

A spokeswoman said that the decision was made because of the fact that states and communities are changing the way that gender is defined.
