Friday, police arrested three suspects last Friday in the shooting death of a single mother of two young girls in what investigators believe was a robbery planned by one of her co-workers.

Allegheny County, Pa., police say Keiauna Lynnette Davis was heading home from her shift at Dollar General on Thursday when she was ambushed and shot, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Laya Whitley, 21, Dane J. Taylor, 21, and Kaijin Scott, 23 were arrested and charged in the slaying. According to court documents, Whitley, who worked with Davis, allegedly conspired with the two men to rob the 27-year-old of her $3,000 income tax refund.

“I can’t believe someone places so little value on someone else’s life for $3,000,” Sheila Detwiler, Davis’ mother, said to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Detwiler was planning to buy a larger home so Davis and her two young children could move to Charlotte, N.C. Instead, she is now burdened with the task of planning her daughter’s funeral and making arrangements to take care of her granddaughters Azaylah, 6 and Aliviyah, who turns 3 on Tuesday.

“It wasn’t just $3,000 you took. You took so much more from so many people,” Detwiler said of the alleged killers.

According to police, Davis had recently received her tax refund and was carrying $3,000 in cash the day she was slain.
