Oprah on how ‘a**hole’ Hollywood predator Harvey Weinstein bullied her

A few months back, Oprah inspired a nation with her thoughtful and courageous speech made at the Golden Globes. Naturally, a joke about the media mogul running for presidency turned into an actual rumor which turned into an actual hope for some— that’s what happens when you have a hot-tempered reality TV star sitting in the most powerful office in the world.

Now, everyone’s favorite female billionaire can be heard on the premiere episode of Gwyneth Paltrow’s new podcast, The Goop, detailing the truth about her relationship with Harvey Weinstein, the man who caused #MeToo to reach new heights.

“What I knew was Harvey was a bully. Was I friendly with Harvey? Yes, I was friendly with Harvey,” said Oprah. “I didn’t know any of this was going on.”

According to DailyMail, Oprah also told Paltrow that Weinstein used to try to intimidate her into booking the stars of his films onto her Emmy-winning talker, The Oprah Winfrey Show.

“What I do question for myself is why I was willing to put up with the bullying thing,” Oprah continued. “I was willing to put up with, ‘OK I’ll take the call,’ ‘OK I’ll do that.’ Why am I willing to put up with an a–hole? Why we won’t tolerate other things, but you can throw phones and call people jerks or whatever and do all this nasty stuff?”

“It had been coming with Bill Cosby and nothing happened,” Oprah later said. “It had been coming with Bill O’Reilly. Even with the President of the United States with the Access Hollywood tape, and yet, nothing happens. It had been coming. It had been coming and [Weinstein] was the moment where it all crystallized.”

“I’m hoping that it leads to a better way of all human beings treating each other,” Oprah continued, “and that this moment in the movement is leading us toward saying, ‘Not only am I not going to take your sexual harassment, I’m not going to take any of your bulls–t. Period.’ I think we’re on our way but we’re still figuring it out.”

Paltrow also publicly stood against Weinstein with her own #MeToo story back in October, detailing an incident with the Hollywood heavyweight when she was 22-years-old. Paltrow alleged that he invited her to his hotel suite and put his hands on her, suggesting they retire to the bedroom together.

Oprah asked Paltrow about her bravery to speak up, and if it was prompted by the other strong women who voiced their experiences.

“Very,” Paltrow said. “It’s been months of me trying to process it all. I came out early in the trajectory of the whole story and I didn’t feel safe but I felt like I had a responsibility to do it.”
