Anne Hathaway calls out white privilege in post about Nia Wilson’s murder
The actress is challenging white Americans to speak up against racism
Anne Hathaway is using her platform to speak out against hate crimes and we are here for it!
Wednesday, the Oscar-winning actress was outraged by the racially biased murder of 18-year-old, Nia Wilson and took to her Instagram to vent about it.

Not only did she honor the young woman in her post, she also called out fellow white Americans who turn a blind eye to the heinous atrocities that Black Americans have faced at alarmingly increased rates under the Trump administration.
Describing Wilson’s murder as “unspeakable,” the Ocean’s 8 star acknowledged her own privilege while challenging allies to step up their involvement.

“The murder of Nia Wilson- may she rest in the power and peace she was denied here- is unspeakable AND MUST NOT be met with silence,” Hathaway wrote to her 12 million followers.
“She is not a hash tag; she was a black woman and she was murdered in cold blood by a white man.
White people- including me, including you- must take into the marrow of our privileged bones the truth that ALL black people fear for their lives DAILY in America and have done so for GENERATIONS. White people DO NOT have equivalence for this fear of violence.
Given those givens, we must ask our (white)selves- how “decent” are we really? Not in our intent, but in our actions? In our lack of action? Peace and prayers and JUSTICE for Nia and the Wilson family.”

In wake of Hathaway’s call to action, fellow A-lister, Jada Pinkett-Smith applauded her fellow actresses’ strong stance on this issue.
