This week, Chicago mayoral candidate Amara Enyia made a stop at The Breakfast Club to outline her plans to make the city better and open up about her highly publicized connection to Kanye West.
According to Complex, West made two large donations to her campaign over the last year totaling approximately $200,000.
“He said he was thinking about coming back to Chicago,” Enyia said during her sit down the day before the election to discuss. “He wanted to give back to the city. He’s from the South Side, so he’s a native son, and when he was having conversations with folks as he was thinking about moving back that my name kept coming up.”

“I’ve been doing a lot of organizing work for years in the city, so he said he wanted to meet and talk about what we could do in Chicago,” Enyia recalls. “We met for the first time, and there was no talk about endorsement or support. It was all just talking about—he had this limitless vision about what could happen. It was actually really refreshing.”
During their time together Enyia says West also assured her that he no longer supports Trump’s views.
“I asked him about the whole Trump thing because there was some controversy over, you know, what was going on with Donald Trump,” she said. “But he told me he doesn’t support Trump’s views. He said ‘I don’t support his views, but I believe that your platform, and your message, and who you are is what Chicago needs.’ ”
The segment about Kanye comes up in the at the 3:40 mark.
Meanwhile Kanye is not the only high profile hip hop supporter of Enyia Chance the Rapper has been vocal about her being the Windy City’s solution.
“We need a new mayor, but not just anybody,” Chance tweeted to his followers last September. “We gotta start to come together around a candidate that cares about equity in regards to education, job development and healthcare in one of the most segregated cities in the country.”
A month later he held a press conference to formerly announce his endorsement of Enyia for mayor of Chicago. Given Chance’s relationship to West, many speculate he was probably one of the people who brought her to his attention.
Both West and Chance stumped for Enyia last year. West reportedly donated more than $73,000 to her campaign. And she praised Chance for his support for the city of Chicago through several philanthropic endeavors.
“Chance represents someone who has seen what we can do and what we can be as a city,” Enyia said to a crowd of supporters at an October rally, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
