Kim Kardashian slammed for visibly darkened appearance in new photoshoot
Kim Kardashian is supposedly channeling Elizabeth Taylor in her recent photoshoot. But the bronze tone to her skin has people giving her another cultural appropriation sideeye
Just when it started to look like Kim Kardashian was making amends with her critics in the Black community due to her staunch advocacy of prison reform, it appears all it took was a heavy handed application of body bronzer to set social media aflame with indignation.
“As one of the most famous woman in the world, Kim Kardashian West has built up a roster of high end designer friends from Riccardo Tisci to Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing,” declared Cosmopolitan, in a piece meant to applaud the reality star as she channeled Elizabeth Taylor in a vintage Thierry Mugler dress.

While the photos of the mother of four dripping in white diamonds and pearls certainly did evoke the essence of her longtime fashion icon, fans couldn’t help but notice that her complexion was considerably darker, closer to that of her biracial daughter North West than her own.
“ARE YOU F**KING KIDDING ME?,” actress and comedian Amanda Seales wrote in response to the pictures, before informing her Instagram followers, “I’ll address this thoroughly later.”

“Kim, sweetie, you know the black community doesn’t do well with Non-POC taking on the melanin aesthetic,” one commenter explained on social media before accurately predicting, “You will be receiving backlash.”
“The thing with Kim Kardashian and her family’s tireless history of cultural appropriation and Blackfishing is that she knows better,” chimed in Twitter user @WannasWorld wrote. “They know better. But they continue to do this because they know outrage sells. They’re able to keep their name relevant by doing things like THIS.”

To Wanna’s point, this isn’t the first time Kardashian or her crew have been slammed for mining Black culture and using its precious gems to feed both their aesthetic and wallets. But the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has yet to comment on the outrage sparked by this latest incident.
