Barack Obama, Kamala Harris, AOC among 2020 DNC speakers

The lineup of speakers for the Democratic National Convention has been announced. Speakers include a long list of party leaders and of influential voices to join this year’s virtual convention. 

The opening night, Mon. Aug. 17, will feature speeches from Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Michigan’s governor, Gretchen Whitmer, and former Ohio governor, John Kasich, will also speak. Kasich is a Republican who ran against Donald Trump in 2016.

The first night will be capped off with a speech from former first lady, Michelle Obama

Tuesday will feature speeches from the former acting attorney general Sally Yates and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. That same night, New York’s progressive representative, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, will also speak. Rounding out the evening will be words from former president Bill Clinton and Dr. Jill Biden

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Elizabeth Warren are slated to speak on Wednesday night. The 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama will also speak on this the second-to-last night.

The night will end with a speech from the vice-presidential candidate, Kamala Harris

Finally, on Thursday night before the speech from the presidential nominee, Joe Biden, other members of his family will speak. They will be preceded by Sen. Cory Booker, former presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg. On many line-ups, Sen. Kamala Harris is listed on this night as well. 

But, as the vice-presidential nominee, she will speak on Wednesday.

The lineup is not fully complete. There could still be others who will join the lineup. Also, the Democratic National Committee had previously committed to having everyday Americans join the convention. 

Notably, Stacey Abrams is not listed. Nor is tech entrepreneur, Andrew Yang who expressed his disappointment on Twitter

The program will be two hours every night and during the all-virtual event, Biden will deliver his speech from his home state of Delaware.
