Meghan McCain throws subtle shade at Trump over Arizona race
John McCain's daughter and 'The View' co-host seemed to be targeting Trump in her post-election comments
Meghan McCain is a proud Arizona native and as the historically GOP state continues to tally votes, The View co-host got on Instagram to take what many saw as a thinly veiled dig at President Donald Trump.

McCain is among those closely watching the tight race in the Copper State which is currently favoring Biden with a slim lead. On Wednesday, she opted to share a screenshot of a tweet from sports pundit Zach Schwartz which hints at how she really feels about the president.
The meme features the now-iconic Michael Jordan documentary screengrab, over which Schwartz wrote, “Trump: *spends 4 years talking s— about John McCain*,” with Arizona’s response to that blatant disrespect being, “…and I took that personally.”
Back in 2015 President Donald Trump famously slammed the late Sen. John McCain, Meghan’s father, during his run for the presidency, stating that he was “not a war hero.”
“He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured,” Trump said.
As theGrio previously reported, in September, Cindy McCain endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election despite years of being a Republican.
“There’s only one candidate in this race who stands up for our values as a nation, and that is Joe Biden,” the widow of late U.S. senator wrote in a tweet.
McCain wrote that her late husband, who died of brain cancer in 2018, “lived by a code: country first.”
She wrote that while her family is Republican, they are “Americans foremost.”
“Joe and I don’t always agree on the issues, and I know he and John certainly had some passionate arguments, but he is a good and honest man,” she tweeted. “He will lead us with dignity.”
Biden embraced the endorsement, saying that McCain supports him because of the comments that the president allegedly made about Americans in the military who died at war, calling them “losers” and “suckers.” Trump has denied the claims.

The endorsement is not entirely unexpected. Last year, Trump complained that he hadn’t been properly thanked for his efforts on the longtime senator’s service: “I gave him the kind of funeral that he wanted. Which, as president, I had to approve. I don’t care about this — I didn’t get a thank you. That’s OK. We sent him on the way, but I wasn’t a fan of John McCain.”
