Jermaine Dupri Mauldin, an American record producer, songwriter, and DJ, is set to launch his line of purely vegan ice cream in Walmart, “JD’s Vegan Ice Cream.”
In an Instagram post captioned, ‘We really did it!!!! Yes!!” Jermaine expressed his utmost delight on the launch of his ice cream in Walmart stores and urged his followers to go to JDVegan.com, the official website for his vegan products, and type in their zip code to locate the nearest Walmart store with JD’s Vegan ice cream.
His inspiration
Jermaine is no stranger to the vegan lifestyle and has been vegan for almost 20 years. His vegan journey started during his active touring years when he realized how unhealthy he was.
Eating meat and dairy products weighed him down considerably until his friends introduced veganism. His first 25 days of eating plant-based products showed immense results, and he has continued ever since.
Over the years, he has actively promoted veganism and has even made vegan-based products—one of such is his vegan ice cream idea.
He was inspired by the lack of vegan-desserts options in the commercial food market and decided to do something about it. Although some vegan desserts are available, Jermaine believed they were part and not wholly vegan; ‘why should I trust vegan desserts from a non-vegan company?’, he further questioned.
The Grammy-winning producer partnered with Walmart and shared the same vision of providing the best alternative of food products to the average family or individual. With proof and affordability in mind, Jermaine decided to charge only $6.47 per pint of his ice cream.
The JD’s Vegan Ice Cream
Jermaine lived up to his name by cross-branding his musical success with the ice cream flavors creatively. He initially launched three flavors: Apple Butter, Welcome to Atlanta Peach Cobbler, and Strawberry Sweetheart.
Apple Butter has a buttery apple base immersed in toasted cinnamon streusel crumble. Named as a homage to a popular 2002 song with Ludacris is Welcome to Atlanta Peach Cobbler made with golden peaches and crumbled cobbler toppings.
Strawberry Sweetheart, the people’s favorite, named after popular Mariah Carey ‘Sweetheart’ is made with huge strawberry chunks and tastes like strawberry gummy bears.
To allow for a wide choice of flavors, he decided to add a dark chocolate flavor made of cocoa butter and a hint of vanilla bean called Chocolate My Way named after Usher’s ‘My Way,’ (404) Cookies and Creams, and Key Lime Pie.
Everybody, including non-vegans, can enjoy these ice creams, and he also plans on building an army of JD’s Vegan Army, a group of people who can help others begin their vegan journey.
