Misty Copeland reveals she is engaged to Taye Diggs' cousin

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Misty Copeland may just be having the best year of her life.

She made history in June when she became the first African-American female principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, and in the September 2015 issue of Essence, she is now confirming that she is engaged to attorney Olu Evans, who is a cousin of actor Taye Diggs.

In the article, she gleefully admits, “I can’t believe my life right now.”

Earlier this week, she opened up to Vanity Fair about her wedding dress and the upcoming nuptials.

“I’d like to show my figure, somewhat — romantic and elegant,” she said of her gown. “I don’t think I want to go super poofy or anything like that. It’s very different for a performer, a ballerina, someone who is onstage a lot and wears big costumes. So it’s not like this is my chance to be that way, because that’s something I do every day, almost. I want to feel like myself — but more beautiful than I do every day.”

Misty, who is 32, met Olu, 37, at a New York City club back in 2004. They have been together for the past 10 years and currently share an apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
