He raps, sings rock songs, makes appearances on ESPN, and now Lil Wayne can add political commentator to his repertoire.
The multi-platinum selling artist sat down with VIBE magazine and shared his thoughts on the recent GOP debate held Monday night. The debate, which included the participation of Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, and Michele Bachmann, gained much attention because of its fiery exchanges between candidates, and addressed issues with immigration, the economy, and health care.
During one instance the debate moderator posed a hypothetical question asking what a young, uninsured American in a coma should do, “Society should just let him die?” Cheers were heard and some members in the audience shouted “Yes!”
The rapper said, “I feel like as a people the most that we can do is better ourselves and learn. Then look at yourself and ask ‘Am I the person they’re talking about or am I not?’ You have to make the most of who you are because the Republicans are never going to like us.”
Wayne also believes President Obama’s race has a lot to do with GOP opposition to and disrespect for the Commander-in-Chief’s policies:
“I don’t think I have to say that for everybody to know that,”
However, he did say understood people’s frustrations with Obama’s handling of the economy. Despite it all the rapper said he wasn’t too shocked by the arguments made by the GOP candidates:
“You learn from what the right-wing is doing and you take something from it,”
Lil Wayne also stated he wasn’t concerned about any consequences regarding a diss aimed at Jay-Z on his “I’m Good” track.
Lil Wayne’s latest album, Tha Carter IV sold 964,000 copies in its first week of release (falling 36,000 short of his most epic release to date, Tha Carter III).
