It should tell you something that Tiger Woods has picked the grandest venue in all of golf on which to stage his long anticipated comeback.
No link, no hole or, opponent will be safe from Tiger’s force of freakish nature when it comes time for the Masters early next month, which is when he’s slated to take to the greens for the first time since news of his debilitating sex scandal broke nearly five months ago.
The world’s top-ranked golfer seems primed for winning and amazing fans like never before as he returns to the PGA Tour with more focus than he’s arguably ever had.
Here are the five biggest reasons Woods should be motivated to return to golf with a new sense of determination
1) Woods’ combination of talent, ability and drive will now be concentrated solely on the game, as many suspect it hasn’t been since his early days on The PGA Tour. Tiger would like his fans to believe that when he’s not on the links his focus is entirely on his family and doing what is necessary to preserve their life together. That may be true to an extent, but otherwise, golf is the only thing that matters to him.
2) An athlete on the edge is a dangerous athlete. Even the biggest critics of Tiger admit their disapproval of him has very little to do with the level of golf he plays. We can also agree that Woods probably isn’t really any closer to allowing the public-at-large into his world than he’s been since news of his troubles became public. Thus, playing phenomenal golf will be his only way of saying ‘I told you so’ to all those who’ve openly questioned if he could ever again rise to the levels of greatness that first made him so beloved.
3) The specter of Jack Nicklaus and his record-setting 18 majors dogs Tiger now more than ever. Furthermore, Nicklaus accomplished it all with nary a blemish on his character. Tiger will never again be able to lay claim to that distinction. His only chance of overcoming Nicklaus and laying claim to the mantle of greatest of all time indisputably lies in the numbers.
4) Because no matter what sin you commit, God never seeks to even the score by stripping away your gifts. Sure, talent may begin to dissipate over time and fades when not properly nurtured. But for an athlete still in his prime and on his game, the beat generally seems to go on, no matter what transgressions one might commit. And no matter what you think of Tiger Woods, there’s no denying he’s an athlete still at the peak of his physical prowess.
5) Pure physics alone. As many as 16 women not named Elin Woods have been romantically linked to Woods. All that energy will now be preserved for the golf course …at least that’s Tiger’s story and he seems to be sticking to it.
