They’re camera operators, audio technicians, and directors filming a video for the rap duo, M.O.S. They are teenagers.
19-year-old Anthony Garcia wants to be a rapper and entrepreneur. He says the south side media club has quickly taught him that his dream won’t come true without long hours and a lot of hard work.
“When it’s hot outside and you’re not getting the right takes, that’s bad,” says Garcia.
Instructor Frank Ortiz grew up in the New York music scene and is teaching the kids everything from how to shoot off a tripod, light a set, or simply be comfortable in front of the lens.
“I thought the kids would be tired, but they are here at 10am setting everything up by themselves. It’s a big accomplishment for me and them,” said Ortiz.
The kids are also filming their own documentary about the history of the neighborhood. Their first assignment was to interview the city’s mayor.
“You look at them and see they’re taken to it. I’m proud,” said Frank Ortiz.
