A young boy was rescued Thursday after spending two hours treading water in the basement of his burning Trenton, New Jersey home.
Battalion Chief John Gribbins was battling the fire when he spotted the boy through a basement window.
As the boy struggled to stay afloat Gribbins told him to swim to a nearby water heater and hold on.
Firefighters were eventually able to enter the basement and pull the boy to safety.
The child’s mother and two sisters escaped the blaze, but his 7-year-old brother was killed
