Hill: No further comment on call from Virginia Thomas

WASHINGTON (AP) — Anita Hill isn’t commenting today on the phone message she received from Virginia Thomas — the wife of Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas.

In the message, the justice’s wife asked Hill to apologize for the sexual harassment allegations that nearly derailed Clarence Thomas’ Supreme Court nomination 19 years ago.

Hill has said she won’t apologize, because her testimony was the truth.

This morning, Hill declined to comment to reporters who stopped her in the Boston suburb of Waltham as she drove to work at Brandeis University. She asked them to move so she could go teach her class.

But in an earlier statement, she said the call from Virginia Thomas as “inappropriate.” She contacted the public safety office at Brandeis, which then notified the FBI.

In her own statement, Virginia Thomas said she did not intend to offend Hill.

She says her offer of an “olive branch” still stands, and that she would be “very happy to meet and talk with her.”
