Kanye: Taylor Swift, others didn’t deserve Grammys

Kanye West said in an interview with Access Hollywood that the last four Albums of the Year Grammy winners didn’t deserve to win.

“Why are the last four Albums of the Year Taylor Swift, Dixie Chicks, Ray Charles and Herbie Hancock?” he asked, “Like, you know, with all due respect… that’s inaccurate.”

According to Kanye the nominations just don’t make sense. He seems to feel resentment about the fact that his last album, 808’s and Heatbreak, didn’t get nominated for anything.

“It won’t get blackballed like the last album?” he asked about his new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which is set to be released on Nov 22.

He claims that his complaints are not particularly about him, but about “things being fair for once.” He argues that the Grammys and MTV Video Awards have a social responsibility. “Little kids that are 6-years-old that are singing in front of the mirror, they’re also thinking about their Grammy speech, they’re thinking about winning the VMA.”

Kanye says these awards should reflect what happened in pop culture and music during that respective year before winners are chosen. Some of the albums that he suggested were overlooked include Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds and Usher’ Confessions. He also added that although he will not deny his fans a performance, he refuses to sit in the audience to watch a Grammy ceremony.

“I can’t do it because I care,” he says, “I can’t just see it happen over and over for years and years and years.”
