Oprah to star in comedy by ‘Sex and the City’ director

From Clutch Magazine:

Oprah will star in a new comedy written and directed by “Sex and the City” director, Michael Patrick King. The media queen will share the screen with industry Hollywood weights Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock, according to Deadline.

Considered to be one of the most exceptional cast assembled in years, the Universal Pictures project will be set in a world of a Home-Shopping kind of network, where the characters make their way through a hybrid of media, marketing and marriage.

King tells Deadline, “I came up with the idea of writing Meryl, Sandy and Oprah, and it became so specific to them that I wanted to be sure I had interest from these ladies.” The famed SATC director continues “I put it in front of each of them and they all said yes.” King also say it was appealing to craft a character for Oprah to come back and play that’s not Oprah.

Oprah’s gearing up for the launch of her new OWN network. The big O recently revealed the big name guests for her long-running show’s final season. Oprah’s November guests will include former president George W. Bush, and parents of Michael Jackson, Katherine and Joe Jackson. Bush will appear November 9. No scheduled date on the Jackson’s appearance.

The last major film Oprah starred in was the Jonathan Demme-directed adaptation of Toni Morrison’s “Beloved.” Oprah also guest starred in the Disney animation “Princess and the Frog.”
