Anna Jefferson was just a baby when another family took her and raised her as their own. She has gone through most of her life known as Anna Cummings, but after being reunited with her family 25 years after she was taken from them, she says she’s finally back where she belongs.
“Oh my God, this is my family, they really here, like is this real, it just seems like a dream,” said Anna.
At 18, she learned the parents she thought were hers.. were not. Now she is 25, and with the help of friends and the internet, her dream has come true. The details surrounding her separation are hard to know, as Anna’s father died in 2009 and her mother in 2006.
Shearea Jefferson, Anna’s sister, heard from her mother that Anna was taken away by an aunt and her great-grandmother. However, the family is divided. The aunt says that Anna’s mother arranged for the Cummings family to look after Anna for a few weeks. She says that one day however, they just disappeared. Anna’s aunt denies giving her away and asserts that she definitely did not sell her.
“I never thought in a million years they would take the child out of Mississippi period,” she said.
As for Anna, she is no longer in contact with the family that raised her. “I’m happy I met my family, that’s all I got to say.”
