Man arrested for death of sleeping 11-year-old

An arrest has been made in connection with the shooting and killing of an 11-year-old boy who was sleeping in his bed.

Suspect George Dickson Gbowea, 32, was arrested when he tried to leave the area after the shooting. According to investigators, Gbowea has been charged with murder.

Detectives said Gbowea previously called 911 to report that someone was breaking into his car. He then decided to confront the person himself when he thought the person who tried to break into his car ran into a unit in the apartment building.

As a result, three residents in the apartment building were struck with bullets. Rodney Palmer, 11, was shot in the head and killed; Marcus, Rodney’s younger brother, was shot in the stomach and leg; and a 25-year-old woman was shot in the wrist and leg.

“Never would think that this child, … that I would not see him grow up to be a man, and his life was cut short because someone decided to take a gun,” aunt Deborah Guillory said. “Let this be a lesson to everyone that’s quick to grab a gun. You never know where those bullets are going to land.”
