Police are searching for the person who shot a 14-year-old boy to death on a Brooklyn street.
The NYPD says Tyrek O’Hara-Morris was shot in the head around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Crown Heights. Officers responding to a call of shots fired near Park Place in the Wingate section of the borough discovered his limp body.
O’Hara-Morris, a student at Automative High School in Fort Greene, was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Despite previous run-ins with police over fighting, the boy’s mother could not believe her smiling child would have enemies that would have shot and killed him.
“My son has no enemies. He has no enemies. He’s a regular 14-year-old who lives with me – his mom – and his siblings. And we have a pretty decent life, you know,” Althea O’Hara, Tyrek’s mother, told NBC New York.
Still, police are reportedly checking to see if the shooting was the result of a dispute that erupted between Tyrek and another person.
The victim’s mother says she won’t stop seeking justice until she has answers as well.
“I just want some closure. “I’ve heard about [violence in the neighborhood], I’ve never actually never been this close to it, you know what I mean? It just hit home now, because it happened to me, my son,” said O’Hara as she stood solemnly at the site where her son was gunned down.
“Please turn yourself in,” shes pleaded with her boy’s killer, “because my son’s blood is not going to go in vain because I won’t stop. I need closure.”
