Chicago’s new public schools chief could be paid more for student’s better grades and higher graduation rates.
Newly appointed schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard said Thursday a “performance contract” would hold him accountable for student achievement, the Sun-Times reports.
Brizard’s base salary likely will stay at the $250,000 base approved by the school board until a new board is seated. Then it could be raised based on schools numbers in a variety of areas, including test scores.
The contract has not yet been finalized, and Brizard said Thursday he couldn’t talk about details while it’s being negotiated.
Brizard began his position May 26 after volunteering without pay for a week in the CPS system. His contract was approved by the Board of Education May 25.
Brizard came from Rochester, NY, as a teacher and administrator before beginning his position in Chicago.
Within his first official days on the job, Brizard said he is already thinking about efficiencies.
“In my four days on the job, just walking through the buildings, I already see places I can easily save money. Again, not large sums, but every dollar counts in these days to make sure that you’re pushing as many dollars as you can to the classroom,” he said after a school “listening tour” at Malcolm X College this week.
