Two of Terrell Owens’ former teammates say the star wide receiver plans to return to the NFL despite recent surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee.
Both players spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because Owens hasn’t publicly revealed he had the surgery. It’s unknown how the five-time All-Pro hurt his knee.
ESPN first reported Owens had ACL surgery.
Neither Owens nor his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, could be reached for comment.
Owens spent last season with Cincinnati. He had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee in December.
The 37-year-old Owens is not under contract for the 2011 season, and probably wouldn’t be able to play before November at the earliest.
