Carter Strange, 18, just planned to make a brief jog home just after midnight last week. What he didn’t expect was to wake up in the hospital after undergoing emergency brain surgery.
Strange was the victim of a severe beating by Thyreem Henrey, 19, and seven other teenagers on June 20th. Henrey and his associates, which range in age from 13-16 are being charged with second-degree assault and battery by mob.
Strange was released from the hospital on Sunday and may still face facial reconstructive surgery. In the days since Strange has thanked the man who found him and hopes this never happens again.
“The main thing now is that I’m ok,” said Strange in an interview with WYFF NBC of Greenville, SC. “I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”
The attack led the Columbia City Council to approve an emergency curfew requiring under the age of 18 to be off the streets from 11pm to 6am. The emergency law will expire after 65 days.
