Son allegedly beat by mother for missing church

Police were called to a Georgia home on Saturday morning by a seventeen year old boy whose mother would not stop beating him with a belt. Supposedly the boys mother, Lolita Smith, was hitting her son because he wouldn’t go to church.

11 Alive reports that Smith beat her son until he went to hide in his room, and then broke down his door to continue hitting him. When the police arrived on the scene Smith was cursing and acting belligerently, saying that the way she disciplined her son was her business. Her sons arm had visible welts.

Smith, a speech pathologist who works with Cherokee County Schools, was charged with simple battery and criminal trespass. This is the fourth time the home has been visited by the police due to domestic dispute. Lolita Smith was released on bond on Sunday.
