A complete ski resort: Vail

Vail, Colorado

There is an unspoken understanding in Vail that “If you are here, you belong.” Unlike skiing the ultra steeps and ultra-deeps of Telluride, the skiing in Vail takes you to three mountains. This resort is often described as “a huge front face of long and very smooth cruisers, an enormous back-bowl of wide-open adventure spread across six miles unlike anything this side of the Atlantic, [with] the Blue Sky Basin providing lift access to boundless backcountry trails.” The expert and advanced skier will find their share of double black diamonds on the Front Mountain and powder on the Back Bowls.

Intermediates can ski most of the advanced skier terrain in the Basin or alternately, the front face of the mountain because Vail consists mostly of intermediate trails. Beginner trail options are also numerous and do not limit the beginner to just one face of the mountain. At the mountain top, beginners will find a lot of terrain where they can work on navigating trails and actually skiing.
