An oasis in the desert

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The second largest of the 7 emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dubai is a city cloaked with mystery and adventure. I have been longing to take a trip to this city in the Arabian Desert. The time and money was right, so I booked the 14 hour flight to experience this city of wonderful contrasts.

After arrival, I quickly realized Dubai is a bustling city. English is spoken by most people in Dubai, and they are very welcoming to outsiders who show respect for their culture. Dubai has every type of food from all the established chains from both the U.S and abroad. Dubai is a shopper’s paradise.

My day started with brunch at the Burj Al Arab. The Burj Al Arab is the world’s only 7-star hotel. Top notch service, and the food was excellent. I ended my first night with a trip to an authentic Arab hookah (sheesha) restaurant, and dined on a table full of seafood, chicken and beef complete with humus and piping hot pita bread.
