Nothing Beats Taj Mahal Love: A letter from India

Delhi, India

The noise of the city has forced me to get up, so I figured it was a good time to write my letter from India. At any given time, there are up to 30 cars blaring their horns simultaneously. The noise pollution here is louder than any hood I’ve ever lived in! To make matters worse, most of the cars have large signs that say, Blow Horn or Honk Please OK on the rear of the vehicle. We still haven’t figured that one out!

My journey to India started just four weeks ago when a colleague of mine invited me to attend his sister’s wedding in Mumbai. You know me….Have passport, will travel! So with two girlfriends, two cousins and a uncle, we headed for India.

The wedding was very cool. It was my first Indian wedding and I had a chance to experience it in India! The women wore beautiful saris that were colorful and laced with intricate beading and stitching. In general, you will see beautiful saris on Indian women every day. We only attended the ceremony day as the entire process is about 4 days. Similar to American weddings, children were having a great time running around and playing with each other! The guests were extremely friendly to Nakia and I and we had a great time experiencing the differences.

Mumbai is similar to most major cities around the world. Crowded with people and bustling with activity. We were excited to move our vacation to the more laid back Udaipur. Udaipur is the city of lakes and probably one of the most romantic places I’ve visited. After touring the palace, we watched the sunset over the lake with the city as a backdrop. The moment was beautiful! Then Deena exclaimed…”Oh great, here I am in another romantic place and I’m sharing it with Bo…DAMN!” After visiting Greece and Italy twice with me, Deena is over the romantic stuff with her girlfriends!

I must have been having a good hair day on our first day in Udaipur because I was told
by five different people that I looked like Shakira. Hmm….I better add more crunches to my workout routine when I get home. I now have fans to impress! Many men stop us daily to pose with them in photos. As you can imagine, few African Americans visit India, so we are a novelty to them. After the 10th photo, I’m actually starting to feel like a star! If push comes to shove, I can return to India to marry the man that swears that if I just take him home to the States, he will do all the work! Can I mail order a groom from India?
